Stable Cottage Interior Gallery
About our Cottage
A perfect family retreat with charming features and a modern open interior. Originally the stables for the nearby manor, Stable Cottage was reclaimed from a cowshed in the 1950s and converted to a 4 bedroom clifftop cottage.
The last extravagant makeover in 2014 fully reconfigured the downstairs area creating spacious open living areas with high ceilings, bundles of natural light and huge bi-fold doors opening onto the Victorian stable yard. Located at the end of a private lane, Stable Cottage is a perfect retreat for groups and families, whilst not too large for a couple wishing for a little more space. With Monks Bay a stones throw and woodland and coastal walks on the doorstep, the cottage is both ideally located and beautifully furnished
Inside the Retreat
Downstairs
Walk around living area: bedroom, bathroom
Leading from the front door, you can circumnavigate the communal living spaces.
A large hallway is perfect for muddy wellies, beach toys, bags and boots. The orangery style entrance lounge opens to the cosier dining area leading to the kitchen and back to the lounge via the hallway. Windows aplenty, standing sea views and heaps of space.
As well as the woodburner, the downstairs features underfloor heating throughout. There is also a downstairs double bedroom and bathroom with hose shower. The open plan living and adjoining kitchen retain many original features including high vaulted ceilings with exposed beams and a fireplace with wood burning stove. A ceiling lantern is a recent addition adding to the light in the living area which opens out onto the stable yard. A wide brick arch leads through to the kitchen featuring a breakfast bar and cosy snug corner with seating and coffee table.

Outside the Cottage
Outside
The lounge overlooks the Victorian stable yard with the cliff path leading in front of the southern wall to the beach or east into the woodland walk to the next village. The large bifold doors open onto the yard where children can play happily and safely on bikes and scooters. Although Stable Cottage has its own outside dining and seating area, the Stable Yard is open to Strawberries and the Hideaway. Strawberries guests may use their adjacent area but there is no car access other than for unloading on arrival.
Following the short path down the cliff is Monks Bay a beautiful sheltered beach, with several swimming spots. The offshore breakwater to the west is the perfect place to cast a fishing line out to sea. At low tide hundreds of rock-pools are exposed just waiting to be searched for fish and crabs. Leading west is the sea wall, an easy going stroll to Ventnor Seafront with a good choice of restaurants and bars.
Relax in the terrace gardens and enjoy the gentle sound and smell of the ocean
